December 2007 "Around the World in Ninety Years"
In December 2007, Bill Brower, Asbury~Solomons Island’s newest published author, held a book signing event. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of his book were donated to the Asbury~Solomons Island Benevolent Care Fund. “Around the World in Ninety Years” chronicles Bill’s life, beginning with his childhood on a farm in North Carolina through the past 11 years as a resident of Asbury~Solomons Island. Bill and his late wife, Mabelle, were some of the earliest benefactors of Asbury Foundation, donating three hospital beds to the Asbury Health Care Center many years ago. Asbury Foundation is grateful to Bill for all of his gifts throughout the years.

On Saturday, August 5, at 2:02 pm, the Asbury~Solomons Rubber Duck Regatta was held on the shore of Asbury~Solomons Island to benefit the Asbury~Solomons Benevolent Care Fund.

Thousands of rubber ducks raced toward the shore of the Patuxent River along the Asbury~Solomons pier allowing participants who "adopted" ducks to win valuable prizes. The cost for adopting an individual duck was $5.00 or a "quack pack" of 6 ducks for $25.00. Prizes ranged from a Caribbean Cruise for two at 1st prize to Tax Preparation services for 8th-11th prize. The event was well-attended and offered something for all ages.

December 10, 2005 H. Mike Hua, book signing
H. Mike Hua, a resident of Asbury Methodist Village, hosted a book signing to benefit the Asbury Methodist Village Benevolent Care Fund. Mr. Hua served as a military pilot in Taiwan for fifteen years, including five years as a U-2 pilot. His honors include a Distinguished Flying Cross from the U.S. Air Force, the Outstanding Aerospace Engineer Award from Purdue University, the Engineering Medal from ROC Society of Engineers, and many medals from the ROC Armed Forces. He had published two books, Story of Yunhan and Sky of Fighters, in Chinese, and many technical and non-fiction articles both in Chinese and English in various journals. Lost Black Cats is the story of two captured Chinese U-2 Pilots who survived a missile explosion, were severely wounded, and captured by the People’s Republic of China. Incarcerated and harassed for almost nineteen years, their loyalty was questioned strongly by their own government. Finally they were allowed to return to Taiwan more than a quarter century later.
